We
were granted full access to the headquarters and training facilities
of the London Regiment, the largest TA infantry regiment still operating
today within the UK. We looked into the civilian lives of a handful
of the soldiers, and followed them on their annual two-week exercise
in Germany. We also investigated the history of the various companies
within the Regiment, and the military honors each have earned. THE LONDON WARRIOR takes an independent and objective tone. In light of recent conflicts and the uncertain future that many of us feel we face, we thought it important to show the human side to the men and women who freely surrender part of their private lives to ensure the security of our own. We wanted to achieve this without emphasizing the negative aspects of modern Army life that are often prevalent in many documentaries concerning the military. Previous

At Asuncion,
we met Hetty Abadie, a French lady who has been in Paraguay for more than
30 years. She told us if the plan to visit her farm which is situated
in the Chaco in North-east of Paraguay near Bolivia and Bravil san some
700KM from Asuncion.
Aldo Zuccollillo is the owner and director of ABS Colour, the most important newspaper in Pararguay. That gentlemen put at our disposal her personal aircraft which will do the journey in less than 2 hours ratyher than 2 days by differcult tracks. We land gently on the clay strip and were immediately enshrouded by a heavy and humid blanket of heat. Front of us: a lake of 2,000 hectares with 60,000 crocodiles (Jacare - by the Indians). Varon, the cowboy and his wife, Marta run this 23,000 hectare property and more than 1000 wild buffaloes. Around the lake and in the deep jungle are living a lot of wild birds like parrots, toucans, jabiru, wood stork and giant kingfishers, with jacare, jaguar, puma and the coypu... the biggest rodent in the world which can attain up to 60 kilos in weight. Further along the Paraguay river lives an Indian tribe, the Charamacocos. |

A 14,000
hectare property located in the northern province near the Botswana frontier
will see the start of the round-up of more than 600 animals including
antelopes, giraffes, buffaloes and rhinoceros. The animals will be auctioned
in order to restock other breeding areas.
Marius Kotze, the director of the property is in charge of the operation and together with his assistants outlines the program to Danie the helicopter pilot, and to Johan and Andre who are specialists in capturing animals. All this is taking place under the watchful eye of the proprietor, Philippe Vastapane. It is 07.00hrs, the helicopter engine is purring, the jeeps and lories are starting up and the round-up is about to start... I the bush the animals make their way to the waterholes... |
